My name is Ismael Ahmed, director and curator of the "Concert of Colors" and host of WDET's "This Island Earth".

I'm here to welcome you to this year's "Concert of Colors".

Before we get started, I'd like to take a moment to honor the first peoples of this country and planet.

After all, the "Concert of Colors" is taking place on their land.

The "Concert of Colors" was started by Detroit's communities of color to celebrate their cultures and the music of all peoples and to work for peace, love, and justice for all our communities.

Today we continue in that tradition.

We'd like to thank all the staff, volunteers, and artists that have made this year's event possible.

Especially the Detroit Institute of Arts who have played such an important role, as well as the Detroit Public Television's WTVS, and Detroit Public Radio's WDET.

- Hello, my name is Ken Fisher.

I serve as the current Chair of the Concert of Colors Advisory Board but I am a longtime fan of Detroit's acclaimed Diversity Festival whose audiences now reach around the world.

We are thrilled to welcome to the 29th "Concert of Colors" the return of DakhaBrakha, a unique, amazing group that concert presenters all over the world love to bring to their stages because their audiences love them, and you will, too.

With roots in avant-garde theater, this Ukrainian world music quartet from Kiev mixes the traditional with the cutting edge while presenting it all with their creative blend of atmosphere, energy, and fun.

Using Indian, Arabic, African, Russian, and Australian rhythmic folk instrumentation, their powerful and uncompromising vocal range creates a trans-national sound rooted in Ukrainian culture.

DakhaBrakha have been recording albums since 2005 and have contributed to many film and television soundtracks including the FX network's "Fargo".

They've won awards and performed worldwide, and in 2014 at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival where, among a lineup of amazing and top name groups, they were acclaimed "Best Breakout of the festival" by "Rolling Stone Magazine".

Jaws dropped, heads turned, and ears were opened when they performed previously at the "Concert of Colors".

It's an experience like no other.
