TREASURES OF NEW YORK

Installing Cooper Hewitt's One-of-a-Kind Light Fixture

Perhaps one of the most expressive items in the Cooper Hewitt collection is the "Porca Miseria!" lamp by German lighting designer Ingo Maurer. Composed of broken white porcelain tableware, this distinct piece was acquired by the museum in 2010. It takes over half a dozen people to properly (and carefully!) suspend the intricate lamp from the museum’s ceiling. The result is simply spectacular.
